Good leather edge sealing requires hand speed

You must be patient and patient when it comes to edge sealing of vegetable tanned leather. . .

Step 1 – Polishing:

The right-angled edges of the leather cut by the knife must be polished again with a sanding strip, and polished vertically until the leather edge and the leather surface are at a 90-degree right angle. (When cutting, if the angle of the leather knife and the hand knife is slightly unstable, it will form an angle greater than or less than 90 degrees)

Step 2 – Trimming:

Use an edger to round off the polished leather edges. Choose the corresponding edger model according to your leather thickness. Don’t shake your hands and drive forward. Don’t worry, there are no traffic police. Just keep pushing.

Step 3 – Shaping:

For shaping with clean water, use a cotton swab or sponge stick or your finger to dip an appropriate amount of clean water into the edge of the leather until the edge becomes darker. Wait for five seconds. When the leather feels semi-dry to the touch, use a sanding stick to select a sanding opening that is one size larger than the thickness of your leather. This is for sanding the middle part of the leather edge. After polishing, select the polishing port corresponding to the thickness of your leather for shaping, and shape the overall edge of the leather. This process will test your hand speed. Grinding the leather edge well requires effort.

Step 4 – Edge sealing:

After shaping with clean water, use 800-grit sandpaper to polish the edges of the leather to remove the pits and rough skin on the edges. When the leather edge is polished until the color is even and white, congratulations, you have polished to the inside of the leather edge. After sanding, use a sponge stick (you can no longer use your fingers, and it is best not to use cotton swabs with fine silk inside) dipped in edge sealing liquid to evenly apply to the edge of the leather, and after drying, continue to polish again with 800-grit sandpaper. Depending on your needs, generally apply the edge sealing liquid after polishing it twice, and then let it dry. If possible, you can rub wax on it and then polish it back and forth with a canvas, which will make it very moist!

Tips:

It is also important that the leather has high density and high oil content. Argentinian vegetable tanned leather is fine and the price is not expensive.
